"Debate continues to rage over British Columbia’s carbon tax. First announced in the February budget, the tax kicked in on July 1. It applies to the combustion of all types of fossil fuels, including gasoline, natural gas, diesel, and coal. Initially set at a rate of per tonne of carbon-dioxide equivalent emissions, the tax is scheduled to rise in increments to reach per tonne by 2012. "
